Capt. Katie Higgins

Marine Corps Capt. Katie Higgins, pilot for the Blue Angels' Fat Albert C-130, is the first woman to fly with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels demonstration team. She was formerly stationed with Marine Aerial Refueler Squadron 252 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina.

Women Airforce Service Pilots

The 1,074 women awarded wings in WWII stationed at two bases in North Carolina: the Asheville Weather Wing Headquarters and Camp Davis Army Air Field, near Holly Ridge. At Camp Davis, they towed targets for anti-aircraft training.

In 2013, Captain Lindsey Jefferies became the first African American female Black Hawk pilot in the North Carolina Army National Guard.
